Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London) She was raised by her mother, her grandmother, and godparents. Her father abandoned her family. As a young girl, Ford was battling anxious disorders, obsessive/compulsive and was afflicted through word-related associations. Ford's passion for acting started in her early years. Ford joined the National Youth Theatre. She was accepted into Sylvia Young Theatre School but after one week decided she wasn't a good fit. Ford rather than applying for admission to Central School of Speech and Drama and getting a spot at the third time she applied for and was awarded an admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama. Shaun Dingwall would play Pete Tyler as a regular character for Doctor Who. Ford did not finish her studies until 1993. In 1991, however, Ford had made her first television appearance on the show Surgical Spirit. At that time, Ford adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate made her television debut in 1991, appearing on shows like The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. as well as London's Burning. Tate also performed regularly in theatres, before eventually joining with the Royal Shakespeare Company for its 2000-2001 season. Tate gained recognition for her stand-up comedy that became part of her portfolio in 1996.
